Online Opt-In Authorization

If you want to be assured that your debit card continues to work as it currently does, you must respond.

Dear Valued Customer,

Your First Sentry Bank account may have a special feature called Bounce Protection that provides a safety net in the event there are not enough funds in your account at the time of your everyday debit card purchases or ATM withdrawals. But whether or not you have bounce protection, its still important you "Opt-In" (as described below) to assure your debit card works as it always has because in some instances (again, whether or not you have bounce protection), your account may become overdrawn due to debit card activity.

Recently, new regulations are requiring banks to give customers the option of "Opting-In" to allow us to continue to offer our standard overdraft services to your ATM and everyday debit card transactions.

Your First Sentry Bank debit card will work as it currently does. If authorized, reasonable debit card transactions occur that cause your account to fall into a negative balance, you will incur our normal overdraft fee of up to $35 dollars, as set forth in our fee schedule the same fee as if we returned your item unpaid. Opting-in means your debit card will work as it currently does, which could include accessing funds up to your available Bounce Protection limit. This may save you the embarrassment of having a transaction declined if you have made a mistake in balancing your account or are short on cash. There is NO FEE to keep Bounce Protection on your account and NO FEE if you never use it.

  • Visiting us at any of our bank office locations

If you decide not to opt-in, your everyday debit card or ATM transaction could be denied at the point of purchase/transaction if there is not enough money available in your account to cover a purchase or a withdrawal. Save yourself the potential embarrassment, Opt-In today!

What you need to know about overdrafts and bounce protection fees:
An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway.
We can cover your overdraft the following ways:

  • Bounce Protection that has been given to you with your account
  • Overdraft Protection Line of Credit
  • Linking your checking account to a saving account

What are the bounce protection features that come with my account?
We may authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to:

  • ATM Transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if First Sentry Bank pays my overdraft?

  • We will charge you a fee of up to $35.00 each time we pay an overdraft
  • The maximum number of overdraft items you could be charged for daily is 5 for a total of $175 in fees under the "Bounce ProtectionSM " program
